2026 Darcy L. Hubka-Vopat Memorial Scholarship
Darcy was born and raised in Wilson, KS and loved everything small, rural towns stand for. She was an active member in her community and believed you could accomplish anything if you just put a little work into it. Darcy was a long-time employee of Wilson Communications, having worked as an Office Assistant and AP Specialist for over 10 years. In January 2025, Darcy lost her battle with Ovarian Adenocarcinoma and to honor her memory Wilson Communications is offering one, nonrenewable $500 scholarship opportunity to a student what will be pursuing a degree in an accounting related field. To be eligible to receive a scholarship from Wilson Communications, all items must be included and the applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. A graduating high school senior including non-traditional students. Non-traditional is defined as those that are attending online or who are home-schooled. 2. Accepted to a four-year college, university, junior college, vocational or trade school. 3. Applicants must live within the Wilson Communications’ service area. 4. Applicant’s field of study must be geared towards an Accounting related field. Each selected recipient will receive one, nonrenewable $500 award. This will be payable in a $250 installment per semester for two semesters and sent directly to the recipient’s school on their behalf. It is the recipient’s responsibility to contact our office for the issuance of each installment. Application Instructions Only complete applications received by the due date will be considered. The deadline to be submitted to Wilson Communications is April 3, 2026. Please limit your essay to no more than two pages, double spaced. o Describe what inspired you to choose a degree in the accounting field and whether you believe this degree choice will have an impact on small, rural communities. Letter of Recommendation or a completed Educators Statement/Counselor Comments A wallet size photo of applicant (photo will be used for promotional announcements in the event the applicant is selected).
