READ - DISCOVER - INSPIRE

Please contact Mrs. Toll if you are interested in being a student adviser to the library.

Use the online catalog to find magazines, books,
videos and much more in your school library.

Ell-Saline Family--The library software was upgraded over spring break 2020. These upgrades should allow you to research easier and quicker.  There are many great new options.  Please explore and get to know your library's catalog.  I still recommend that you sort by call number if you are looking for research materials.  Sorting by call number will bring up nonfiction items first, then fiction, then magazines.

Looking for a credible search engine?

Sweet Search allows students to choose the most relevant result from a list of credible results, without the distraction of unreliable sites.
Sweet Search focuses on primary source materials.

Look at both sides of an issue.

This site promotes critical thinking, education, and informed citizenship by presenting controversial issues in a straightforward, nonpartisan, primarily pro-con format.

Do you want help citing your research?

Generate citations in MLA, APA & Chicago formats for your bibliography.
(You are still responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the citation.)

Research papers made easy!

This research guide for students will help you write your research paper. There is guidance with footnoting, referencing and bibliographies.

Tips:

-While it is ok to start with Google or Wikipedia, information from those sites must be evaluated.  It is suggested that you use the above reliable sites and Kansas Library databases for your research.

-Many of the links on this page work by verifying your Kansas internet provider address.  If they do not work for you, please log in with your Kansas Library eCard to access the databases.  Visit with Mrs. Toll about getting your free Kansas Library card and or your free Salina Public Library card.

STUDENT RESEARCHER ORIENTATION

ALL STUDENTS

The Researcher software underwent an upgrade in March 2020.   Many changes were made to make it easier for you to search for items in your library and see what is new.

You may access Researcher from your chrome book or any other computer.  The link to Researcher is on the library page of the Ell-Saline website.

There is also a link for training videos that will help you start to navigate through Researcher. These videos are short and will familiarize you with Researcher features. I advise you to start with the “Patron-facing performing search” video.

Important notes:

--You each have a log in:

Username:  your library checkout number.  (Please notify Mrs. Toll if you have forgotten your number or you are new to Ell-Saline.)

Password:  your last name (All lower case.  If your password doesn’t work, please notify Mrs. Toll & she will make sure your password is your last name.)

--To conduct a search use: Search (the magnifying glass), Scout, or Explore.

--BROWSE is a great feature to use showing items on the shelf:

----Newest Books in the Ell-Saline library

----Search covers by genre – Western, Romance, Mystery, Action, Dystopia, Fantasy etc.

----Study program – you can enter your AR reading level here and it will bring up books in your range.

--You will be able to locate books using Researcher.  Once you find the book that you might want, click on the far right arrow or “details” to bring up an excerpt about that book.

--If you decide that you want the book, just click on the hold icon (book with a hand on it) and log in using your library checkout number for username and your last name for password.  This will place a hold and Researcher will notify Mrs. Toll that you have requested this book.  If you are looking at several books and want to make a list that you can come back to later, you may click on the list icon and start a temporary list of books that you may want to read later.

PLACING A HOLD

When you place a hold an email will notify Mrs. Toll of your request.

Mrs. Toll will pull your item within 24 working hours.

You may stop by the library to pick up the item that will already be checked out to you.

Please note that an item will only be held for 7 days, so timely pickup is necessary.

RETURNS

Please return all items to the library within 4 weeks of checkout.  All items should be returned at the end of 4 weeks.

ACCESSING YOUR ACCOUNT

In Researcher click on “Status” or “Patron status”

You will be able to:
