Ell-Saline Student Council Takes Homecoming ‘Around the World’

Ell-Saline High School was buzzing with global energy this October as the Student Council led students and staff on a week-long Homecoming adventure “Around the World.” Themed spirit days, colorful competitions, and a high-energy pep rally made this one of the most memorable Homecoming celebrations yet.

Throughout the week, each day brought a new destination and a fresh dose of Cardinal pride.

  • Jet Lag Tuesday had everyone cozying up in their favorite pajamas.
  • Night Lights in Tokyo lit up the halls Wednesday as classes dressed by color: Seniors in blue, Juniors in green, Sophomores in pink, Freshmen in purple, 8th graders in orange, and 7th graders in red.
  • African Safari Thursday turned the school into a sea of camo.
  • And on Friday, No Place Like Home, Cardinals packed the stands in a wave of red and white to cap off the week.

“The goal was to get everyone involved. Not just high school students, but our whole Cardinal community,” said Student Council President Reese Krone. “Seeing the hallways transform each day was awesome. Everyone really bought into it.”

Friday’s pep rally brought the entire district together, with Ell-Saline Elementary students joining the fun on the high school campus. The rally kicked off with a series of games that kept the crowd on its feet, including a lively round of charades with the elementary students and a “How Well Do You Know Your Partner?” challenge featuring the Homecoming candidates. The crowd favorite, though, was the class competition; a musical chairs twist that required students to grab a basketball and sink a shot before claiming a seat.

“It was chaos in the best way,” joked Student Council member Sara Lutes. “Everyone was laughing, cheering, and running all over the gym. It really showed what Ell-Saline spirit is all about.”

Adding to the fun, each class decorated a wagon for the new annual tradition “Parade of Floats,” bringing the “Around the World” theme to life. From landmarks to creative travel designs, every class went all-out, but it was the Sophomore class’s “New York City” wagon that took home the top honors.

"I can't believe we won it" said Sophomore Marcella Garber. "It kinda just all came together at the last minute!"

The week wrapped up with the long-standing tradition of awarding the Spirit Stick, which went to the Senior Class after a week of unmatched participation and enthusiasm.

Advisor Mr. Cain Fouard praised the Student Council for their leadership and teamwork. “Our students put in so much effort to make this week something special. They handled the planning, organization, and energy from start to finish, and it really showed.”

From the jet-lagged pajamas to the triumphant seniors, Ell-Saline’s Homecoming Spirit Week proved that school pride knows no borders.
