Mrs. Abker grew up on a farm in Beloit, Kansas, with five brothers and sisters and LOTS of animals; then she later graduated from St. John's Catholic HS in Beloit.  After high school, she attended McPherson College where she played volleyball and ran track; she then taught one year before she returned to work at the college while pursuing her Master's Degree in literature at Wichita State University. Since then, she worked for twelve years at Canton-Galva HS, before moving to Salina to teach and coach track at Salina Central for 23 years. In total, this is her 40th year of teaching. Mrs. Abker lives with her husband Mark (an Ell-Saline grad), two black labs, and several cats. She enjoys walking the dogs each evening, living in the country, ENGLISH!! and attending Cardinal events and K-State football games. This is Mrs. Abker's fourth year teaching SAT Comp, Jr. and Sr. English, and first year with creative writing here at Ell-Saline.  She is also NHS sponsor, and helps with AD duties. She enjoys the smaller classes, the welcoming community, and her great students!
