Officers Visit Classroom

August 29, 2008
WOW- what an exciting day. Our classroom had some very special guests visit, they were officers from around the state. Officers are currently training to become DARE officers, and our classroom was chosen as a place for them to come practice.
Typically, you only hear about DARE officers working in 5th-8th grade classrooms teaching about Gang, Drug, and Alcohol Resistance. Now there is curriculum for them to teach in lower elementary about safety. The officers worked with small groups of students and presented the lesson. The interaction between the students and officers was a great experience for all.
After the lesson was complete, we got to go on a "field trip" to the parking lot for a final surprise. One of the officers has a "totally tricked out" DARE vehicle that we got to enjoy. We had a great time sharing our classroom, and we know these future DARE Officers with do an awesome job.
