H1N1 Update

November 10, 2009

Ell-Saline USD 307 H1N1 Update

Because of vaccine shortfalls, the Salina Saline County Health Department has been advised by both CDC and KDHE to restrict vaccination to only those groups at highest risk of influenza illness. This means that it may be awhile before they can begin vaccinating healthy children 5-18 years old. Overall influenza illnesses are declining, but there may be a second wave before they have enough vaccine to do school based vaccination. They are concerned that parents of children 5-18 years old with chronic health conditions may be assuming that they will be able to vaccinate in the schools very soon, but in reality it may be several weeks before supplies are adequate. For that reason they are encouraging parents of children with chronic health conditions to consider taking their child to a public vaccination clinic on Thursdays at the 4H building.
