State Track Meet Results

Double State Event Champions

     Five Ell-Saline student-athletes competed at the state track and field meet held in Wichita on May 29 – 30:  Senior Kate Armstrong; Juniors Michael Haverfield & Cody Rietcheck; and Sophomores Mariah Jones & Daniel Ellis.  This event was the 99th annual boys and 38th annual girls state championship competition.

    Both Sophomores achieved class 2A state champion status:  Daniel in the 1600 meter run and Mariah in long jump.  Daniel Ellis also set two new school records with his 1600 meter state winning time of 4:31.20 and his fourth place state finish in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:00.34.  Mariah Jones took first in state in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 3 inches and second in the state in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 4 inches.  Jones also finished seventh in the 200 meter run with a time of 27.42.  Junior Cody Rietcheck rounded out Cardinal scoring by claiming the seventh place medal in the javelin event with a throw of 164 feet, 11 inches.

    The state championship competition was extremely intense with mere seconds and inches separating competitors.  All of our Cardinal track athletes performed well and we’re proud of their state qualification and personal season achievements.
