Ellis Sets New 800 Meter School Record

Sophomore Daniel Ellis broke
the 800 meter school record with a time of 2:03.66 at the Heart of
America (HOA) league meet on May 11, 2009. The boys’ team scored 46
points to claim 5th place meet honors. Ellis doubled his winnings
in the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:53.02. Sophomore Jose Arias
had a good hurdle day by finishing second in the 300 meter race
(45.21) and third in the 110 meter race (18.41). Freshman Clay
Gorrell jumped 15’, 7.75” in the long jump to take sixth place. The
4 X 800 meter relay team (Licharowicz, Wesley, King, Ellis) took
third place in a time of 9:15.97. The 4 X 400 meter relay team
(Ellis, Arias, Licharowicz, King) finished in fourth place with
3:53.28. Finally, the 4 X100 meter relay team (Parker, Most,
Gorrell, Wesley) took sixth place in a time of 53.56.
The girls’ team scored 19.5 points
to claim 7th place meet standing. Sophomore Mary Katherine Cookson
threw the javelin 80’, 2” for the third place medal. Freshman Audra
Hughes had a busy day: fourth in 3200 meter run (14:54), sixth
place in the 800 meter run (2:55.83), sixth in high jump (4’, 4”),
and third place in the 4 X 400 meter relay. This relay team (Base,
Hughes, Burkhart, Cookson) finished third in a time of 5:12.43.
Freshman Annika Patrick threw the discus 81’, 3” for sixth place
and Sophomore Haleigh Burkhart threw the shot put 28’, 5” to finish
sixth place.
