Whats Happening

November 18, 2008

Good things happening in the Middle/High School Building.  Standard of Excellence in 7th grade, 8th grade, 11th grade and building wide in Reading, 8th grade History-Govt., and 11th grade Math.  Thank you to our teachers, students and parents that work hard to achieve these outstanding results.  Keep up the good work.

Do you know the meaning of the terms Similes, Metaphors, Hyperbole, Imagery, Idiom, Personification, Onomatopoeia, Analogies, or Symbolism?  Ask an eighth grade student.  In English class they are reading stories and identifying these terms.  The students are reading Flower for Algernon in class and will be able to tell you what terms are used in the story.

In history class, the eighth grade students are designing, and writing a student constitution for the Middle/High School building.  They must list the different groups of people in the school from students, teachers, janitors, paras, office staff, administrators and parents.  Their Constitution must include: What is the purpose of the constitution, the legislative branch, executive branch, judicial branch and the other items pertaining to a constitution.

In seventh grade history, students are studying our Kansas history.  You should be able to ask any of the seventh graders when Kansas became a state, what is the state motto, who designed the state seal and motto and get the answer.  They should also be able to tell you who the leader of the raid on Lawrence was, where the only Civil War battle was was held along with what African American soldiers were called.  They will be able to tell you how many senator we have and how many members of the house of representative there are in Kansas.
