Sheriff's Youth Academy
by Deputy Chad Flesher
February 21, 2008
The Saline County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a Sheriff's Youth Academy on June 2nd -June 6th, 2008.
The Sheriff’s Youth Academy is a 40 hr mini law enforcement academy. This program is not only designed to get youth interested in a career in law enforcement, but to promote good citizenship in those who are interested in other careers.
We will cover many of the same topics that are taught in real law enforcement academies. In this program, the youth will learn about law enforcement procedures with the use of classroom instruction, hands-on practical exercises and tours of the various facilities that make up the criminal justice system.
Their instructors will be actual law enforcement officers with many years of combined practical experience.
Instead of focusing on the “how” of law enforcement, this program teaches youth the “why” of law enforcement procedures.
We want the students to learn about the vital role that law enforcement plays in the safety of our citizens and to realize that there is more to this profession that what they see on TV and in the movies.
This program is limited to 30 youth.
Any youth who attends school in Saline County is eligible to attend this academy. They must have completed the 7th –12th grade during the 2007-2008 school year.
There is no cost to the youth or their family.
Contact Deputy Chad Flesher or go to the Saline County Sheriff's Office website for more information.
